Artistic Bicycle Rights in Baghdad

This Abu Cali-based blogger came across an art show in Baghdad by the artist, Najm Al-Qaysi, that uses bronze and steel sculptures of people biking to make statements about the current broken situation in Iraq.

An excerpt from the post: “Started the day in Baghdad heading to an art gallery in a part of town largely controlled by Shiite militias – but a section of it secured by the nearby Turkish embassy. We’d been told about an art opening recently, and I wanted to get the scene, and talk with a couple of the artists. In particular, the guy who had made a very cool Sisyphean bicyclist in bronze and steel. The first time I saw it, I related. I dunno if it was the 13th Street hill, or the human condition, but I got it.” Read more here.
